The Tuller Method is a system of self-paced mastery centered around a topic that is investigated using various academic disciplines (reading, writing, spelling, art, math, and science). Also known as interdisciplinary or integrated studies, our learning system gives students the opportunity to grasp a subject as a whole and not in separate parts that must be unified later.
The Tuller Method employs workbooks, textbooks, and syllabi published by the Tuller School Workshop. In addition, mainstream textbooks, computer technology, current, authentic, and culturally appropriate teaching philosophies, activities, and methods are integrated into our curriculum. Students progress at their own rate in small groups of comrades, on their own, or with assistance. Children with ADHD or who may underachieve as well as gifted and accelerated students thrive in our environment.
After the first three years of elementary work, the Tuller Method combines group instruction with individual assessment and progress. The work in each intermediate and junior high group in all subjects is planned around a single unit project. Our project work helps to provide students with essential strategies that will prepare them for cooperative high school and college level curriculums. When appropriate, diagnostic and remedial work is provided.
Classrooms accommodate a maximum of 16 students so that individualized and specialized teaching becomes a reality. Grades are sent to parents quarterly. Frequent parent-teacher communication is expected.
